Planning for Laura Ashley
We have worked with nineteen47 for a number of
years and have always been very pleased with the
service that they have provided. From the outset
of developing the planning strategy, through to coordination and preparation of planning applications,
they have always been professional and responsive
in their approach and have sought to ensure the
application proposals meet the commercial and
operational needs of our business.
David Westerby,
CEO, Corus and Laura Ashley Hotels
The Belsfield Hotel, a Grade II Listed building, located within a Conservation Area and World Heritage Site of the Lake
District. Laura Ashley had ambitions plans for the historic grounds and needed full planning permission as well as
Listed Building Consent.
The Scheme
Proposals included an extension to existing accommodation, the extension and conversion of a derelict coach house
into a spa, removal of a swimming pool and, creation of a sub-terranean wedding and function room with views of Lake
Windermere. With so much at stake, we recognised the need for substantial liaison with the Local Planning Authority
and other key stakeholders including Historic England, UNESCO, Cumbria County Highways and Windermere Town
Council.
The Success
We successfully coordinated a multi-disciplinary team to address issues of heritage, landscape, arboriculture, highways,
drainage, structural, noise and energy. All whilst considering commercial requirements and operational viability, we
succeeded in being granted full planning permission.
