Planning for Talbot Homes
BANBURY
MAGISTRATES
COURT
Application Type: Full Planning Application
The Site
Talbot Homes, a house builder seeking permission to convert
and extend the former Banbury law courts to create 23 modern
apartments. With the building considered a non-designated
heritage asset, minimising harm to the Conservation Area and the
building itself was crucial to this planning challenge.
The Scheme
We immediately recognised the need to ensure that the residential
amenity of surrounding residential properties was not adversely
affected. It was also vital that the planning constraints restricting
scale of development did not jeopardise the commercially viable
of the project.
The Success
Following successful negotiation with the Local Planning Authority,
no ‘affordable housing’ or ‘developer contributions’ were sought
and permission was granted for conversion and extension.
