The Site
Shortwood Lodge; a new settlement of homes at
Lower Shortwood on the eastern fringe of Bristol.
With ambitious plans, the client partnership needed a
masterplan and vison to bring the scheme to life.
The Scheme
As well as the new homes, we proposed a mixeduse high street, primary school, play facilities and a
new comprehensive green belt edge, that provides a
permanent edge to this area of east Bristol. To create
difference and interest throughout the scheme, we
created five character areas each using a variation of
grain, density, building heights and materials to define a
response that would be appropriate to the local context.
The Success
The resulting documents set out a clear vision for Lower
Shortwood, illustrating how a new community of up to
2,500 homes and associated facilities can be created,
with the principles of health and wellbeing at its heart.
